The first version of Unreal Engine first appeared in 1998 and quickly gained popularity among developers of games for PCs and consoles. Already in 1999 the engine got some improvements, but major-version increase does not happen. Finally, in 2002, Epic represents the second version of the engine, which is also used by developers of games for both PCs and consoles GameCube, XBox and PlayStation 2. But the most widely used Unreal Engine 3, which has been developed taking into account the peculiarities of the current generation of consoles.
