SSD Goodbye, comes the super-fast Magnetic RAM

The use of NAND flash memory SSDs has definitely revolutionized the world of hard drives and storage devices for personal computers; better transfer rate, latency almost canceled IOPS values previously unthinkable, are characteristics which we can not now give up. But there is a faster memory of the Nand Flash and certainly cheaper, we speak of the "old" RAM.

The Random Access Memory is fast but has the drawback of not permanently save the data when you switch off the system. The company EverSpin however, seems to have the problem by developing the new Magnetic RAM (MRAM), a type of memory that can precisely to maintain the data when we remove current.

The company is preparing to send the first module called ST-MRAM, with a capacity of 64GB and frequency of 1600 MHz, in short, a sort of DDR3 module to be inserted in the classic slot present on motherboards. There is no info on prices, but we hope that, given the low cost of the company DDR3 does weigh too much novelty factor. source via - extremetech.com

Crucial releases SSD v4 with SATA 3 Gbps

Crucial expands its range with the new line of SSD v4 , designed for users who do not have access to a system of last generation and thus could not take advantage of the performance of SATA 6 Gbps.

The units v4 fact use the standard SATA 2 with a maximum bandwidth of 3 Gbps, however characteristic that allows to have excellent performance when compared to those of a traditional disk in rotation.

These SSDs will be available in 2.5 inch form factor with a capacity from 32 to 256 GB and a maximum transfer rate of 230-190 MB / s in read-write. The access times of SSDs are the classic ones mentioned above and allow the user to benefit, without paying a plus for the SATA 6 Gbps. Prices for Crucial V4 start at 49.99 dollars for the 32GB model to get to 189.99 dollars flagship 256 GB, all units are covered by a 3 year warranty.

Hard Disk Market: SSD prices in freefall

From the site techreport emerges an interesting analysis on the price of SSD. While those of the hard disk rotary refuse to move after the floods, which last year hit production facilities in Thailand, the market for solid-state hard drive (SSD) instead has a much brighter future thanks to technology, Nand Flash becomes more accessible.
From the graphs shown on the site we can see that the trend is a continuous drop in prices to a minimum of $ 1 a gigabyte. Now for example some graphs:

Speaking of OCZ for example, we can see how the prices compared to March of 2011 have fallen by almost half (3 Vertex 240GB model), a trend that is so much hope for a further reduction.

Corsair has seen lower prices instead of their Force Series GT by more than half, especially for models with 240 GB.

Let us finally to Intel with 520 units, models that have recently seen the light, but which amounted to around 350, 200 and $ 100 respectively for models 240, 120 and 60 GB. Here the drop is less obvious but completely normal view of the "age" of these units compared to other models. We thus hope that this trend is confirmed and the SSD can reach all types of users.  By

Technology MSI SuperRAID achieves read rates 964 MB / s on a laptop

MSI has told about the technology SuperRAID, used in gaming notebooks, GT70 and GE70 . Interior of one of them can be considered in detail in the pictures. The notebook is equipped with a hard drive WD Scorpio Black 500GB, which serves as the primary data store, and thus module SuperRAID.
A module is a board with RAID-controller and two slots mSATA 6 Gb / s, each of which is set to SSD SanDisk U100 64GB. By themselves, the device characterized by the speed of reading 440 MB / s write 220 MB / s, but in a RAID 0 array pattern is much better.
Utility HDTune Pro 5.00 showed the following results when reading from SSD: maximum speed - 964.7 MB / s, average speed - 928.6 MB / s, the minimum rate - 843.3 MB / s. Average access time is equal to 0.368 ms, CPU - 9.2%. Module SuperRAID was bootable and contained in the OS itself and programs.
According to the manufacturer, such data rates can be considered a record for a gaming notebook.

Intel SSD 330 120GB will cost $ 149

Solid State Drives Intel SSD 330 is not officially represented, but have begun to appear on the virtual windows. This allows you to make a preliminary idea about the technical characteristics and prices of these products.
In drives with SATA 6 Gb / s using 25-nanometer flash memory. The claimed speed of sequential reading reaches 500 MB / s write - 450 MB / s. This is not a record performance, but they look more attractive than taking into account the price. In the price list online store SabrePC 120GB model corresponds to a price of $ 149, which is $ 40 less than the price of SanDisk drive of the same volume and at $ 60 less than the price last year of the Intel 320 . 60 GB model costs $ 89, and 180 GB - $ 234.
Hopefully, the prices are right. Shop Amazon UK calls as the date for the start of deliveries, 13 of the current month.
