The new OS is based on Windows 7 and includes a new menu Start, which is made in accordance with the ideology of the Metro. It consists of "live" tiles, which play the role of labels and simultaneously display the latest data from applications.
RTM-version (Release To Manufacturing) Windows 8 contains the same code, which will be presented in a release to end users on October 26. Three-month delay is necessary to equipment manufacturers and application developers have time to prepare for the new system.
Regular users will be able to get Windows 8 since October 26 with a new computer or upgrade from Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7 for $ 40 by downloading the distribution from the Net. Customers who purchase or acquire a new computer with Windows 7 after July 1, 2012, will be able to download the upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for $ 15.
Note that Windows 8 will be released in two versions - for systems with processors at the Intel x86 architecture and ARM. Version of the platform for ARM will be called Windows RT. Buy it separately it is impossible - this version will be available only in the form of pre-installed on the plates, which also will be available from October 26. The structure of Windows RT will include Microsoft Office 2013 .
