Intel showed the IDF up a surf pad and smartphone, both of which ran Android operating system. Especially the phone who was standing in front of the camera attracted attention. Intel now says that Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is optimized, and ready for x86.
With proper support for the Ice Cream Sandwich in the back there is not much that can prevent Intel from getting into the market. But ARM is already the largest and almost takes the whole smart phone and surf flat market, with a well established ecosystem so it's hardly easy. Especially now that the first quad-core system processors begin arriving.
The Tablet and smartphones Intel showed off drove with Android 3.2 Honeycomb, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread and really reminded many of the ARM-based devices on the market. But Intel is ready to take on the ultra mobile market with its x86 Atom architecture and has a couple of months now begun working closely with Google.
Intel jumped Thus the MeeGo when Nokia chose to instead focus fully on Windows Phone and now intends to make his dream come true with Google instead. The latest operating system from Google, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will be ready to run on an x86 processor, and be optimized for its Atom architecture.
Intel plans to have the first smartphone out there with their 32nm Medfield SoC out there in the first half of next year. System processor will be based on their good old Atom architecture with a core. Cloverfield and associated devices that come with two cores on 32nm will take until later this year.It also looks like that Intel put out their own restrictions on the Medfield-based tablets. Tablet with Medfield to be 8.9 mm thick and weighing under 680 grams, according to Intel, which puts them on par with other surf boards based on ARM.
