Company OmniVision announced two 16-megapixel sensor that can be used in future versions of smartphones and tablets from Apple.
New sensors OV16820 and OV16825 use proprietary technology OmniBSI-2, which provides for the pixel diameter of 1.34 micron and allow you to shoot video mobile Quad Full HD resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels at 60 fps and 4608 x 3456 pixels at 30 frames per second ( fps). If these sensors are used for shooting standard video 1080p, they provide a speed of 60 fps with the implementation of electronic image stabilization function.
OmniVision OV16820 Option is designed for use in digital cameras and camcorders, and the model OV16825 is specially designed for smartphone-class Hi-End. Both sensors have the support of modern technology Backlight OmniBSI-2.
Thus, the promise to implement new features in compact cameras and smart phones previously unknown features pictures and especially video, now available only to owners of expensive equipment professional level. However, to provide full support for 4K-entry video, gadget developers will have to seriously consider the problem of high-quality optics.
According to observers, one of the potential candidates for the use of a 16-megapixel sensor is the next generation iPhone. For video processing of such high quality mobile gadget should have a very powerful processor.
Mass production of new sensors to begin in the fourth quarter of 2012, said OmniVision. The first devices with cameras are likely to hit the market until early next year.
