Intel is working on a new motherboard for servers (code-named "Lizard Head Pass") that would be able to "accommodate" up to 1 TB of RAM. The ' S4600LH is designed mainly for high performance computing and provides up to 48 DIMM slots.
The board supports 8-core Xeon processors E5-4600 series Sandy Bridge-EP, led by Intel C600 "Patsburg" that can handle up to 8 ports and 2 SATA SCU 3 (6 Gb / s). The board also has two PCI-Express 3.0 x48, one PCIe x8, Intel LAN support VT. It will all be available in the second quarter of 2012 at a price still unknown but certainly not accessible to the "classic" users. Via Vr-Zone
