Sony will produce ultra-thin displays for the new iPhone

Apple next-generation smartphone, now known as the iPhone 5, or The New iPhone, will be equipped with a thin and light display module. This writes the portal TaipeiTimes, pointing out that Sony has become one of the suppliers of those components.

Earlier, sources reported that the new iPhone will display the LCD module with an integrated touch functionality (in-cell), and orders will be placed in the factories of Japanese companies Sharp and Toshiba Mobile Display. Now, to join them and Sony.

Such a number of manufacturers to meet the demand for a complete Apple's displays are made on the technology «in-cell», since, as expected, their production is not sufficiently debugged. Another necessity in several suppliers due to the fact that the release of the new touchscreen is fairly low returns for manufacturers.

Touchscreens "in-cell" noticeably thinner made by technology "on-cell", as they touch sensors built into the color filters, and are not a separate layer above them. Therefore, the new Apple-smartphone will be thinner than their predecessors. The integrated solution  will reduce the thickness of the nextiPhone  to 0.44 mm, observers believe. Among the other advantages of this approach to the creation of touchscreens - more rapid response to the touch screen.

In addition, integrated solution will reduce the weight and thickness of the display, which is especially important if Apple still decides to increase its size. Until now, all versions of the iPhone were equipped with a screen diagonal of 3.5 inches, while the top-end smartphone competition from Android camps are equipped with much larger panels.
