Apple has patented a unique method for curved glass

Patent wars have become an integral part of modern high-tech business. They are used to discredit a competitor or hinder sales. This raises a puzzle: Who was the first in the development of various products. For such purposes, and invented the patent system - it allows manufacturers to secure a unique right to use the technology.

Screens with curved glass in Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus have enabled the Korean company Samsung stand out among other smartphones, but today it is clear that the company does not approach the issue of principle and not too focused on this idea. Bending the display, in its opinion, is not an innovation - this feature is rather cosmetic, rather than technical. But to believe Apple is quite a promising technology.

This week the Patent and Trademark iPad manufacturer has issued U.S. patent for a unique method of manufacturing curved glass without the use of hazardous chemicals. It uses tools for alignment and exposure to high temperatures, and the panel was originally formed around the prepared pan - it can not only increase the speed of production, but also improve the quality of the finished product.

In general, Apple could become a pioneer in the manufacturing of mobile devices, touch screens which have a curved glass. According to rumors, the Cupertino maker planned to apply this technology to create the first model of iPhone, released in 2007, but abandoned the idea because of the very high cost of production of these glasses.

Last year, it was reported that Apple purchased several grinders for cutting curved glass. Then it became known that the company paid for the purchase of their own equipment, as its partners - component suppliers were not willing to invest in the equipment. Apparently, Apple is testing the technology and in the future it will be used in new versions of the iPhone and player iPod.
