Thunderbolt interface for Windows will lose some functions

Peripherals interface with support for ultrafast Thunderbolt, tailored platform for Windows, will lose the possibility of "hot" connection, Transfers AnandTech. In contrast to the "Macs", a version of the Microsoft-port the OS will detect the equipment only after a reboot. It must be connected before turning on your PC and start the operating system. But off the periphery and can be "on the fly."

The rest of Thunderbolt for the PC will operate much the same way as on a Mac. As the resource, to test one of MSI motherboards with support for processors Ivy Bridge, a Windows-based computers can be connected, even 27-inch Apple Display Thunderbolt , however, have to sacrifice for the sake of the brightness settings, and support USB.

The first notebook equipped with a port of Thunderbolt, was released by Lenovo earlier this year. The widespread standard on Windows-based machines are expected in the second half of the year: high-speed interface is equipped with a second generation ultrabook.

Thunderbolt was first  introduced more than a year ago , participated in its design engineers at Intel, in collaboration with Apple. This interface has incredible features: data transfer rate up to 10 Gbit / s at a distance of 100 meters, which is comparable to the speed HDMI, two times faster than standard USB 3.0, three times faster than eSATA / SATA 300, ten times faster than Gigabit Ethernet, and more than 20 times faster than USB 2.0 and FireWire 400.

As expected, Intel further  increase the speed of transmission of data through the interface Thunderbolt through the use of  optical cables . This raises the throughput of the protocol from 10 to 100 Gbit / s and can increase the overall length of up to 100 meters. Fiber optic cables are based on the Thunderbolt will go on sale later this year.
